How Aaron Judge’s rookie season projects against other great ones

Aaron Judge delivered on his potential, beating Miguel Sano in the final round and hitting a total of 47 home runs in the derby.

New York Yankees rookie Aaron Judge will make his mark on MLB history, if he can keep up his incredible pace through the rest of the season.

The 6-foot-7 slugger’s slash line – .329/.449/.691, with 30 home runs and 99 hits in 84 games – is freakish, and projects to compare well to some other historic rookie seasons.

Judge’s projected totals fall short of the all-time rookie marks for RBI, hits, and WAR, but the stat to watch will be home runs, as the 25-year-old is on pace to pass Mark McGwire’s record of 49 home runs, hit in 1987.

If Judge can keep up his 57-HR pace, he’ll not only have broken McGwire’s record, but he’ll have the highest home run total recorded in a season since Ryan Howard knocked out 58 in 2006.
