Back to the Future prediction in jeopardy with Cubs down 3-0

Great Scott! The Chicago Cubs are down 3-0 to the New York Mets in the National League Championship Series.

Perhaps the World Series prediction from the 1989 film Back to the Future II isn’t going to happen, after all?

Oct. 21, 2015 has become Back to the Future day around the world. In the movie, main character Marty McFly (played by Canadian actor Michael J. Fox) visits this exact date in the future and learns that the Cubs win the 2015 World Series, defeating a team from Miami in a five-game sweep.

Obviously, the exact World Series matchup cannot come true with the Miami Marlins, a team that didn’t even exist back in 1989, and a five-game sweep is impossible in a best-of-seven series, but there’s still a chance Chicago could at least reach the World Series.

If they do, the comeback would have to start on, appropriately enough, Back to the Future day. The chances of that happening are as slim as predicting when and where a bolt of lightning might strike. Right.
