Blue Jays place Russell Martin on 10-day DL with oblique strain

The Toronto Blue Jays have placed catcher Russell Martin on the 10-day disabled list with a left oblique strain.

Martin hurt himself in the first inning of Friday’s loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Blue Jays and also designated pitcher Chris Smith and utility player Chris Coghlan for assignment, to make room for Saturday’s starter Chris Rowley and catcher Mike Ohlman.
