TORONTO — Infielder Munenori Kawasaki was recalled by the Blue Jays on Thursday shortly after Toronto’s 8-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels.

Kawasaki will replace rookie infielder Devon Travis, who was put on the 15-day disabled list with left shoulder inflammation retroactive to May 17.

The 33 year old batted .222 in 23 games this season with the triple-A Buffalo Bisons, with no home runs and two RBIs.

Kawsaki has one career home run, 48 RBIs and a .244 batting average in 162 games with Toronto since 2013.

Travis, who was acquired in the off-season in a trade that sent centre-fielder Anthony Gose to Detroit, was batting .271 with seven homers and 26 RBIs in 37 games this season with Toronto. He was named rookie of the month for April.

The 24 year old had never played above double-A before making the Blue Jays big league roster out of spring training.
