The Toronto Blue Jays recalled infielder Matt Dominguez and optioned right-handed reliever Ryan Tepera to triple-A Buffalo on Sunday.
Dominguez, who’s played 39 games at third base and seven at first base in Buffalo this season, could provide possible insurance for the Blue Jays with third baseman Josh Donaldson sidelined by a jammed thumb. Donaldson missed Saturday’s game against the Red Sox after his thumb flared up when he fouled off an inside fastball from David Price the night before.
Dominguez, 26, appeared in three games for Toronto at the end of April, going 0-for-7 with one walk. In 46 games at triple-A this season he’s batting .287/.333/.419 with five home runs and 28 RBIs.
With the subtraction of Tepera, the Blue Jays currently feature a seven-man bullpen.
