Blue Jays sign infielder Jonathan Diaz to minor-league contract

The Toronto Blue Jays have signed utility infielder Jonathan Diaz to a minor-league deal, the Buffalo Bisons announced Tuesday.

Diaz spent the 2016 season with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, the New York Yankees’ triple-A affiliate, and batted .207/.315/.249 with 25 RBI in 101 games.

Prior to that, the 31-year-old spent the 2014 and 2015 seasons with the Blue Jays organization, primarily playing with the triple-A Bisons. He also appeared in five games for the 2013 Boston Red Sox, earning a World Series ring for his efforts.

Diaz has appeared in 210 total games with the Bisons with a .216 average and 46 RBI.
