Blue Jays starter Marcus Stroman hits first career home run

Watch as Marcus Stroman takes the 0-2 pitch out of the park to put the Blue Jays up 8-0 on the Braves.

The Toronto Blue Jays may have found an answer to their offensive woes and his name is Marcus Stroman.

The right-hander hit his first career home run in Thursday’s game against the Atlanta Braves. It was the second hit of his career (and the season) in nine plate appearances. He had a double and scored a run in April when the team visited the St. Louis Cardinals.

You can watch the historic swing in the video at the top of this page.

The home run naturally sent Twitter ablaze with excitement. Blue Jays fans were stunned (naturally) and some couldn’t believe their eyes. Others just couldn’t stop laughing.

Here are some of our favourite tweets.

Stroman wasn’t the only Blue Jay to get his first home run of the season in the game. Outfielder Darrell Ceciliani and catcher Luke Maile both went yard too, just as everyone predicted. After losing the first three games of the series with Atlanta, the Blue Jays clearly needed to find offence from new places and they certainly did that on Thursday.
