TORONTO – The Toronto Blue Jays are bringing up slugger Chris Colabello from triple-A Buffalo for Tuesday’s contest against the New York Yankees, industry sources told Sportsnet.

The Blue Jays officially announced the move, optioning Jonathan Diaz to triple-A Buffalo and designating left-hander Jayson Aquino for assignment to create roster space for Colabello. The decision to send Diaz down means the Blue Jays don’t have a backup shortstop Tuesday.

Colabello, who can play first base and the outfield, is off to a torrid start with the Bisons, slashing .337/.421/.554 with five homers and 18 RBIs in 23 games.

In 59 games with the Minnesota Twins last season, the 31-year-old batted. .229/.282/.380 with six homers and 39 RBIs.
