Blue Jays to recall Hutchison, option Thole to rookie ball

Pitcher Drew Hutchison talks about the feeling of being sent down to the Buffalo Bisons after making his first start.

After a short stint with the Buffalo Bisons, Drew Hutchison is returning to the Toronto Blue Jays.

Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi reports that the right-hander will join the team tomorrow after a sojourn in triple-A.

Hutchison was initially sent down because a series of off days this month made a fifth starter unnecessary. He started once with the Bisons, allowing two runs in four innings in a losing effort.

The 25-year-old starter has paired a 5.06 ERA with a 12-2 record this season, receiving 113 runs of support in 131.2 innings.

In a corresponding move, the Blue Jays have optioned catcher Josh Thole to the rookie-ball Bluefield Blue Jays. Bluefield’s season ends on Sept. 1 and he is expected to return to the major-league team to catch R.A. Dickey on Sept. 2.

Thole has hit .226/.294/.290 in 11 games this season with no home runs and two RBI.

In other Blue Jays’ roster news, Davidi reports the team has claimed Danny Dorn on waivers.

Dorn struggled in limited action with the Arizona Diamondbacks this season, posting a .167/.219/.200 line in 23 games but excelled for the triple-A Reno Aces hitting .386/.444/.618 in 75 contests.

The 31-year-old will be assigned to the Bisons.
