Cards’ Wainwright, Molina botch routine pop up

Not only did St. Louis not come up with the big plays in game one—the Cardinals botched the routine ones. If they want this World Series, that has to change now.

The St. Louis Cardinals got off to an unusually sloppy start in game one of the World Series in Boston on Wednesday.

Cardinals shortstop Pete Kozma got the shenanigans started in the first inning when he failed to execute a routine double play, allowing the Red Sox to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Things continued to get weirder in the second inning, when all-stars Yadier Molina and Adam Wainwright got mixed up and allowed a Stephen Drew pop up to fall between them.

The play was oddly scored a hit, and Drew wound up scoring later in the inning as the Red Sox stormed out to a 5-0 lead.

Making the sequence of blunders even more bizarre, the Cardinals committed the fewest errors in the National League during the regular season.
