The Toronto Blue Jays have signed outfielder Jose Tabata to a minor-league contract with an invite to MLB spring training, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

The 28-year-old right-handed hitter spent the first six seasons of his MLB career with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Mike Morse in 2015 but did not appear in an MLB game in 2016.

Tabata joins Toronto with a career .275 batting average and .336 on-base percentage. He looks like a dark horse candidate to join a mix of left field candidates that also includes Ezequiel Carrera, Melvin Upton Jr., Dalton Pompey and utility player Steve Pearce.
