Ex-NBA player accused of squatting in Arizona

A former NBA star is accused of squatting in a home in an affluent neighbourhood in Arizona and then trying to rent out the home on Craigslist.

Chris Gatling, who played with eight NBA teams over 14 seasons, faces several charges including theft, forgery and stealing someone’s identity according to <a target=”new”  href=”http://www.kctv5.com/story/22108030/former-nba-player-accused-of-hijacking-upscale-az-home”>a report from CBS-5 News in Arizona.</a>

Gatling stands accused of breaking into a keybox and then living in the home from July 2010 to Aug. 2011.

The homeowners resided in California but had left the power on according to the police report.

Gatling then placed an ad on Craigslist which read:

“800-dollars – 4 bedroom Ex-NBA – Paradise Valley Home for rent with pool and utilities included.”

CBS-5 News spoke with Gatling’s attorney, Michael Alarid.

“This is all a misunderstanding,” said Alarid. “We’re hopeful that we can resolve everything as soon as possible.”

According to Basketball-Reference.com, <a target=”new” href=”http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/g/gatlich01.html”>Gatling earned almost $30 million</a> over his NBA career.
