TORONTO — Dan Tolzman was named general manager of Raptors 905 on Tuesday and Jesse Mermuys was made the team’s head coach/assistant general manager.
Tolzman will continue in his role as director of player personnel for the Raptors in addition to his new position with Raptors 905, Toronto’s NBA Development League affiliate. As the D-League team’s general manager, Tolzman will oversee all basketball operations and player personnel matters, including roster management and development, player transactions, scouting and drafting.
"We are pleased to announce Dan and Jesse as our first hires with Raptors 905," said Raptors president and general manager Masai Ujiri. "We feel it is important to have people from our system in charge to assist with a smooth transition as we start this new program.
"Both are eager for this challenge and committed to the development of our players."
Tolzman joined Toronto in 2013. He began his basketball operations career in the NBA with the Denver Nuggets, serving as the team’s scouting co-ordinator from 2011-13.
"I’m honoured to have been named the first GM of Raptors 905," said Tolzman. "The NBA D-League is all about development, and I look forward to using this opportunity to develop in my career while building and maintaining a competitive roster of young up-and-coming players.
"The benefits of owning a D-League team will be tremendous for the players and staff of the Raptors organization for years to come."
Mermuys has been an assistant coach with the Raptors since 2013 following stops in Houston and Denver. He will be the Raptors’ NBA Summer League coach for a second consecutive season.
