The UFC 192 co-main event bout between former welterweight champion Johny Hendricks and Tyron Woodley has been cancelled after Hendricks was forced to pull out of the fight due to what UFC president Dana White described as “weight cut issues.”
Ted Ehrhardt, Hendricks’ manager, told MMAFighting the fighter suffered a kidney stone and intestinal blockage Thursday night while cutting weight. Hendricks was in severe discomfort and was taken to a local Houston hospital where he was given an IV.
White told FOX Sports that Hendricks was 26 pounds overweight on Tuesday and that the UFC tries to discourage its fighters from attempting those types of huge weight cuts. White added that he wants Hendricks to move up to the 185-pound middleweight division.
Hendricks had never missed weight in his UFC career but he has struggled to get down to the 170-pound limit in the past. At UFC 171 last March, ahead of his first title bout with Robbie Lawler, Hendricks missed weight on his first attempt before making it on the second try.
“The weight was coming off fine and then [Thursday] my body just started to shut down,” Hendricks told MMAFighting. “When it hit that point, I tried to push through it, and well, it didn’t go well because then I had to go to the ER.”
White said Woodley made weight even after he knew Hendricks was unable to fight.
