TORONTO (November 12, 2013) A house party is taking place at the Medicine Hat Arena in Medicine Hat, AB, from November 14 to 17 as 18 of the best men’s curling teams will square off at the Canadian Open, the second of four Grand Slam of Curling events in the 2013-14 season. Sportsnet’s coverage of the event begins Thursday, Nov. 14 at Noon ET/9 a.m. PT on Sportsnet East, Ontario, West and Pacific (full broadcast details below).

This year’s Canadian Open features a world-class lineup competing in a high-stakes, round robin-style bonspiel featuring a $100,000 purse. With a $1 million bonus on the line for the men’s team who can win all four events in the Grand Slam of Curling series, all eyes will be on Coldwater, ON’s Glenn Howard following his victory at the Masters two weeks ago. If Team Howard captures the Canadian Open, they will be halfway to their $1 million prize.

In addition to Team Howard, the Canadian Open features 2010 Olympic gold medallist Team Martin, 2013 World Champions Team Edin of Sweden, as well as former World Champions Team Koe and Team Stoughton. The field also includes skip John Morris, former third on Team Martin who left last April to partner with Jim Cotter and recently earned a berth at the Olympic Trials next month in Winnipeg.

Sportsnet’s team of curling experts will be on-hand at Medicine Hat Arena to call the action, with Rob Faulds handling the play-by-play alongside 1998 Olympic silver medallists and former teammates Mike Harris and Richard Hart.

Owned and operated by Sportsnet since 2012, the Grand Slam of Curling is an elite series of men’s and women’s curling events which are part of the World Curling Tour and feature the best teams from across Canada and around the world. In addition to the Canadian Open, the 2013-14 series also includes the Masters (Abbotsford, BC, November 13-17), the National (Fort McMurray, AB, March 12-16, 2014) and the Players’ Championship (Summerside, PEI, April 15-20, 2014).  Tickets for the Canadian Open can be purchased online at Tixx.ca.
