NEW YORK — Joe Lockhart, a former press secretary for President Bill Clinton, will join the NFL as the league’s executive vice-president of communications.

The league also announced Tuesday that Cynthia Hogan has been promoted to executive vice-president of public policy and government affairs.

Lockhart joins the NFL from a Washington, D.C.-based communications and government affairs firm he co-founded. He was Clinton’s press secretary from 1998-2000, and also an advisor and press secretary to several presidential campaigns over two decades.

Hogan was hired by the NFL in 2014 following four years as deputy assistant counsel in the Obama administration.

Both report to NFL chief operating officer Tod Leiweke.
