NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is seeking an annual salary of $50 million and a private jet for life as part of his new contract with the NFL, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen.
Goodell is negotiating an extension at the moment and will meet with league owners on Monday about the subject. He currently earns around $30 million per year.
One owner told Schefter and Mortensen “that number for Roger just seems too much … It’s offensive. It’s unseemly.”
In addition to the salary and the jet, Goodell is also asking for lifetime health insurance for him and his family. Not even former players have the same luxury. Their policies expire five years after retirement, unless they played for three seasons or less, then they do not qualify.
Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys is the first owner to publicly voice his displeasure with Goodell, which stems from Ezekiel Elliott’s suspension.
