Former NHL defenceman Derian Hatcher will take over behind the bench in Sarnia next season after the Sting fired head coach Trevor Letowski and assistant Andy Delmore on Tuesday.

The Sting were eliminated in the first round of the OHL playoffs last week by the Erie Otters after finishing the regular season in seventh place in the Western Conference with a 29-32-4-3 record.

Letowski, who spent his junior career with the Sting, returned to Sarnia as an assistant coach in 2010 and took over head coaching duties to begin the 2013-14 season.

Hatcher and Ottawa Senators centre David Legwand, both Michigan natives, purchased the team  from long-time owners Rob and Mike Ciccarelli in January.

The team said in a press release the rest of the coaching staff will be announced at a later date.
