Tkachuk, Marner key Knights offence in win

OSHAWA, Ont. – Aaron Berisha had a goal and an assist and Matthew Tkachuk tacked on two helpers as the London Knights downed the host Oshawa Generals 5-2 on Sunday in Ontario Hockey League play.

Tkachuk and Berisha sit 1-2 in league scoring through four games. The 17-year-old Tkachuk has two goals and 10 points while the 20-year-old Berisha has four goals and eight points.

Christian Dvorak, Owen MacDonald, Aiden Jamieson and Mitch Marner also scored for the Knights (2-0-2) and Kole Sherwood had two assists of his own.

Stephen Desrocher and Daniel Robertson supplied the offence for the Generals (3-2-0).

London’s Tyler Parsons made 23 saves for the win as Jeremy Brodeur stopped 27-of-32 shots for Oshawa.

The Knights went 0 for 4 on the power play while the Generals scored once on five chances with the man advantage.

FIREBIRDS 2 STEELHEADS 1

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Zach Grzelewski broke a 1-1 deadlock with 45 seconds remaining in regulation as the Flint Firebirds slipped past the Mississauga Steelheads.

Bryce Yetman also scored for the Firebirds (3-1-1) as Kyle Keyser stopped 28 shots for the win.

Alexander Nylander kept Mississauga (2-2-1) from being shut out. Jack Flinn turned away 31-of-33 shots in defeat.

STING 5 WOLVES 2

SUDBURY, Ont. — Troy Lajeunesse had a hat trick and Justin Fazio made 28 saves as the Sarnia Sting toppled the Sudbury Wolves.

Noah Bushnell and Alexandre Renaud also found the back of the net for the Sting (3-2-0).

David Levin and Danny Desrochers responded for Sudbury (1-3-0), which got a 31-save outing from Troy Timpano.

BULLDOGS 3 GREYHOUNDS 2 (OT)

HAMILTON — Stephen Harper scored the winner 1:56 into overtime as the Hamilton Bulldogs edged the Sault Ste. Marie. Greyhounds.

Matthew Strome and Cole Candella also scored for Hamilton (2-2-0). Charlie Graham made 29 saves for the victory.

Zachary Senyshyn and Jack Kopacka struck for the Greyhounds (3-0-2) while Joseph Raaymakers kicked out 22-of-25 shots in a losing cause.

Hamilton’s Niki Petti and Sault Ste. Marie’s Boris Katchouk were given game misconducts in the first period for a second-fight altercation. Greyhounds forward Keigan Goetz was given a match penalty for elbowing at 16:43 of the second while teammate Hayden Verbeek was handed a game misconduct for hitting from behind just 1:15 later.
