Barry Trotz cut by his own player’s high stick

Capitals' coach Barry Trotz got a little too close to the action, taking an errant stick in the face after a collision between Luke Schenn and Marcus Johansson.

Don’t let anyone ever tell you Barry Trotz isn’t tough.

The Washington Capitals coach was doing his job and minding his business on the bench during Thursday’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers when he came under attack – from one of his own players!

In the first period, the Flyers’ Luke Schenn went to hit the Capitals’ Marcus Johansson on the blue line and though he didn’t catch him clean, Johansson hit the boards at an awkward angle and went half over. When he did, he briefly lost control of his stick, which then whacked Trotz on the top of the head.

Trotz is a gamer, though. He remained on the bench and was patched up during play.

But we have to know: what did Trotz do to Johansson to deserve this?
