Ben Bishop responds to P.K. Subban’s slight

Ben Bishop was impressed by the defensive effort made by his team that helped locked down the Montreal Canadiens in Game 6 to send them to the Eastern Conference finals.

Looks like P.K. Subban gave the Tampa Bay Lightning a little bulletin-board material after Game 4.

After the Montreal Canadiens exploded for a playoffs-high six goals Thursday, chasing Lightning goaltender Ben Bishop in the process, the defenceman fired a subtle little shot at the guy most considered the second-best goalie in the series.

“I think Bishop sort of was sitting on a horseshoe for a little bit there,” Subban told reporters after that decisive win. “He’s played well, but he’s been lucky as well.”

The Lightning no doubt caught wind of Subban’s comment, as you can see by the item placed in Bishop’s stall:

The good-to-be-lucky Bishop responded Tuesday in Game 6, stopping 18 of 19 shots and helping the Bolts secure redemption for their 2014 sweep at Montreal’s hands and a berth in the Eastern Conference final.

“Thank goodness for my lucky horseshoe,” Bishop told reporters after the 4-1 victory. Cheeky.

Bishop’s numbers in these playoffs (.931 save percentage, 1.81 goals-against average) are better than those of certain Vezina Trophy winner Carey Price (.920 save peercentage, 2.23 goals-against average).

“I kinda took this as a Game 7 at home,” Bishop said. “I prepared the same way as I did Game 7 against Detroit.”
