Blackhawks extend Michael Leighton for one year

CHICAGO — The Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to terms with veteran goaltender Michael Leighton on a one-year extension through next season.

The 34-year-old Leighton went 22-13-4 with a 2.26 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage with the Rockford AHL affiliate last season. Over 105 NHL regular-season games with four teams, he is 35-41-14 with a 2.97 GAA and a .901 save percentage. He is 8-4 in the post-season and holds the NHL record for most shutouts in a post-season series with three against Montreal in 2010.

Over the weekend, the Blackhawks dealt backup goalie Antti Raanta to the New York Rangers for forward Ryan Haggerty. Raanta played in 39 career games, all with the Blackhawks, who won this year’s Stanley Cup championship behind Corey Crawford and backup Scott Darling.
