Blues’ goaltender Jake Allen ‘hurt,’ pulled from game

David Backes started the scoring in a three-goal first period, Anders Nilsson made 19 saves in relief of an injured Jake Allen, and the St. Louis Blues beat Colorado 5-1.

St. Louis Blues goaltender Jake Allen left Sunday’s game against the Colorado Avalanche after suffering an undisclosed injury.

The 25-year-old played the first period, but did not come out for the second and was not seen on the St. Louis bench.

He was replaced by Anders Nilsson. Head coach Ken Hitchcock said in an in-game interview that Allen was “hurt.”

Allen had played in 46 games coming into Sunday’s contest, going 25-15-3 with a 2.36 goals-against average and .919 save percentage.

The Blues had been splitting the crease heading into the playoffs; with Allen and the more experienced Brian Elliott, who was a healthy scratch Sunday, getting playing time.
