St. Louis Blues announced on Tuesday that forward Zach Sanford will miss five to six months while recovering from a dislocated left shoulder he sustained during training camp.
Defenceman Jay Bouwmeester is also on the shelf after the 33-year-old suffered a left ankle fracture. The team said Bouwmeester will be re-evaluated in three weeks.
Sanford was one of the pieces that the Blues received from the Washington Capitals in the Kevin Shattenkirk trade last season. The 22-year-old played in 13 regular season games for the Blues and notched two goals and three assists.
He was originally a second-round pick (61st overall) by the Capitals in 2013.
