Canadiens’ Andrew Shaw out Friday with a concussion

Watch as Andrew Shaw gets rocked by Torey Krug in the neutral zone.

The Montreal Canadiens will be without forward Andrew Shaw for their game against the San Jose Sharks on Friday as he has been listed with a concussion, Sportnet’s Eric Engels reports.

Shaw was the recipient of a huge open ice hit from Torey Krug of the Boston Bruins during their game on Monday.

In a race for the puck towards centre ice, Shaw lunged outward with his stick to poke the puck forward just as Krug lowered his shoulder for a devastating hit.

Shaw went straight to the dressing room after the hit, but he returned later in the game.

There was no penalty on the play, and the league decided that no supplemental discipline will be handed out as it was deemed that Shaw put himself in a vulnerable position.

It appears that this will not be the only game Shaw will miss. Engels has already reported that Shaw will not be traveling with the team to Washington for their game with the Capitals on Saturday night.

In 29 games this season, Shaw has six goals and nine assists.
