Canadiens’ Beaulieu done for season after breaking thumb

Nathan Beaulieu left the game against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday after apparently injuring his hand while blocking a shot.

Nathan Beaulieu’s 2015-16 campaign is over.

The Montreal Canadiens defenceman is being shut down for the season after breaking a thumb Thursday.

Beaulieu suffered the injury when he blocked a shot in the first period of a 3-0 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. The 23-year-old set career highs in games played (65), goals (two), assists (17) and penalty minutes (55).

In response to Beaulieu’s injury, the Canadiens recalled defenceman Brett Lernout from the AHL’s St. John’s IceCaps.
