Canadiens GM Bergevin says he won’t trade P.K. Subban

Elliotte Friedman dropped the least surprising news of the week when he announced that according the GM Marc Bergevin, the Montreal Canadiens have no plans to move PK Subban.

Rest easy, Montreal Canadiens fans. Your superstar defenceman P.K. Subban isn’t going anywhere.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported Saturday on Hockey Night in Canada that he spoke with Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin, who said he will not be trading Subban.

A report out of Montreal surfaced Friday indicating Subban’s name had been floated in trade talk.

Subban was called out by his head coach Michael Therrien earlier in the week which caused a stir and led to the trade rumours.

Subban is in the midst of an eight-year deal that carries with it a $9-million cap hit. On July 1, a full no-movement clause kicks in and his actual salary jumps from $7 million to $11 million.

In 59 games this season the 26-year-old has 46 points, which ranks fourth among defencemen.
