Coach’s Corner: What is going on with Patrick Kane?

Don Cherry and Ron MacLean take a look at the scary incident in the first period where Scott Laughton crashed hard into the boards and the comments made by Andrew Shaw.

Most of the criticism surrounding the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday focused on Andrew Shaw, but Don Cherry has a bone to pick with another one of the team’s top forwards.

Appearing on Coach’s Corner with Ron MacLean, Cherry took issue with how little Patrick Kane has contributed in the opening-round playoff series against the St. Louis Blues.

Kane has yet to score a goal since the 2016 playoffs began, after scoring 46 goals during the regular season and leading the league with 106 points. He was a minus-1 in over 23 minutes of ice time during Tuesday’s Game 4 loss.

“What is going on with this guy?” Cherry said of Kane. “He was a nothing out there (Tuesday). Unless he gets going, they’re going nowhere. They depend on him all year and he disappears in a game like that.”

The veteran winger, however, has posted four assists in the series, but Cherry said it has not been enough to overcome outstanding play of Blues goaltender Brian Elliott, who excelled in Game 4 as St. Louis took a commanding series lead.

The Blackhawks trail St. Louis 3-1 in the best-of-seven series and Game 5 takes place Thursday night.
