Everyone knows the slap shot king of the NHL today is Shea Weber, who clocked a 108.1 MPH shot at the Skills Competition in Nashville last season, beating out Steven Stamkos (103.9) and P.K. Subban (102.3).
A few players in that competition had shots clock in under 100 MPH which, after watching the video below, makes us think St. Louis Blues defenceman Colton Parayko should be in this year’s hardest shot competition.
Check it out as Parayko takes three shots, two of which came in above 100 MPH.
Parayko, a third round pick in 2012, stormed into the NHL last season with nine goals and 33 points in 79 games. He was a consideration for some in Calder Trophy voting and was on the NHL’s All-Rookie team at the end of the season, with Shayne Gostisbehere as the second defenceman. He was also part of Team North America at the World Cup, scoring three assists in three games.
He’s certainly a player to watch for many reasons this season — and his booming shot is yet another reason to keep an eye on this kid. He’s not Shea Weber yet, but remember, he’s just 23 with room to grow.
