Defenceman Alan Quine signs two-year deal with Islanders

Watch as Alan Quine ends double OT between the Florida Panthers and New York Islanders.

The New York Islanders have re-signed defenceman and playoff hero Alan Quine to a two-year, $1.225-million contract.

The 23-year-old, with only two regular season games of experience, played in 10 playoff contests for the Islanders this spring.

He made a name for himself in Game 5 of New York’s first-round matchup against the Florida Panthers when his slapshot beat goaltender Roberto Luongo in double overtime to give the Islanders a 3-2 series lead.

Quine was a restricted free agent. He was originally drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the third round of the 2011 draft but he never signed to a contract, allowing the Islanders to take the Belleville, Ont. native in the sixth round (166th overall) in 2013.
