While Ryane Clowe‘s playing career is over, the 33-year-old will begin the next chapter of his life in familiar territory.

The New Jersey Devils named Clowe to John Hynes’ coaching staff, the team announced Tuesday.

“We are looking forward to Ryane joining our staff,” said Hynes. “His character, expertise as a player, knowledge of the game and passion to coach will be a benefit for our players and the Devils’ organization.”

Clowe appeared in 56 games with the Devils from 2013-to-2015 before a series of head injuries forced him to walk away from the game with three years remaining on a five-year, $24.25-million contract. Clowe suffered a hit to the head from St. Louis Blues forward David Backes on November 6, 2014.

Clowe was drafted 175th overall by the San Jose Sharks in the sixth round of the 2001 NHL Draft.

The native of Fermeuse, Newfoundland totalled 112 goals and 309 points in 491 games with the Sharks, New York Rangers, and Devils.
