New Jersey Devils forward Miles Wood will have a hearing with the NHL’s department of player safety Sunday for boarding Vladislav Namestnikov during Saturday’s contest against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Early in the second period of Saturday’s game, Wood delivered a hit from from behind on Namestnikov, knocking the Lightning star’s head into the boards. Afterwards, Namestnikov’s Lightning teammate Andrej Sustr jumped to his aid, but ended up getting his visor cracked over his head fighting Wood, leaving him looking bloody.
On the play Wood was assessed a two-minute minor for boarding and another two-minute minor for roughing — a penalty that was served by Devils winger Jimmy Hayes. Sustr was also asses a two-minute minor for roughing.
Although no additional discipline was handed out to Wood, who scored the goal that ended up being the game-winner for New Jersey Saturday, it would appear the NHL took another look and want to discuss their findings with the Devils winger.
