Ducks’ John Gibson named rookie of the month for December

Anaheim Ducks goaltender John Gibson has been named the NHL’s rookie of the month for December.

Gibson went 5-3-1 with a 1.62 goals-against average, .929 save percentage and three shutouts in 10 appearances as the Ducks moved into third place in the Pacific Division.

The 22-year-old was drafted in the second round, 39th overall by the Ducks in 2011.

He’s gone 8-4-2 this season since being called up towards the end of November. He currently leads the league in goals-against average (1.63), is fourth in save percentage (.932) and third in shutouts with four.

Gibson has now played in 41 NHL games over the last three seasons, with a career 24-12-2 record, 2.15 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage.
