The Calgary Flames received some encouraging news on the injury front Friday. Forward Michael Frolik will not require surgery for an unspecified upper-body injury.
Frolik left Tuesday’s game versus the Nashville Predators following a collision along the boards with defenceman Mattias Ekholm. He returned to Calgary Wednesday to be evaluated.
The 27-year-old will miss a few weeks, according to Flames head coach Bob Hartley.
Frolik has seven goals and 16 points in 30 games this season while playing primarily with Mikael Backlund and Sam Bennett in five-on-five situations. He’s been one of the Flames most effective two-way forwards, sporting a 50.8 per cent Corsi for mark.
The Flames signed Frolik to a five-year, $21.5-million contract on July 1.
