Flames’ Versteeg to miss 2-3 weeks, Shinkaruk recalled

Watch as Calgary Flames forward Kris Versteeg is the hero in the shootout for the Flames against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Calgary Flames forward Kris Versteeg is expected to miss the next two to three weeks with a groin injury.

Versteeg has two goals and two assists in 12 games this season, but played just five shifts against the San Jose Sharks on Thursday.

He joined the Flames on a one-year $950,000 contract after turning down an offer to play in Edmonton just before the start of the regular season.

The Flames recalled Hunter Shinkaruk from AHL Stockton later on Saturday.

Shinkaruk played in seven games for Calgary last season, scoring two goals and adding an assist. He has four goals and four assists in seven games with Stockton so far this season.

The 24th overall pick from the 2013 NHL Draft was acquired from the Vancouver Canucks last year in exchange for Markus Granlund.

Calgary is in the midst of a four-game road trip and will play the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday.
