The Calgary Flames dipped into the NCAA free agent pool on Thursday night by signing defenceman Kenney Morrison from Western Michigan University.
A native of Lloydminster, Alta., Morrison scored five times and added eight assists in 25 games this season for the Broncos. He also had a plus-5 rating and collected 22 penalty minutes.
Sportsnet’s Roger Millions says Morrison is one of the top defensive players coming out of the NCAA this year.
Millions noted the deal Morrison signed with the team is for two years.
The 23-year-old played three seasons at Western Michigan, which ended its season on Sunday after being eliminated by Miami.
