The Winnipeg Jets have a trio of young players who should wow NHL fans for years to come.
On Thursday night in Arizona, the Winnipeg’s top line of Nikolaj Ehlers, Mark Scheifele and Patrik Laine combined for three points in the team’s 3-2 victory.
At first, this doesn’t seem all that impressive, but when you consider that the linemates have now combined for 26 points over their last four games together, it seems like the Jets could be set up front for years to come.
Scheifele, who now leads the entire NHL in points with 19, is the grizzled veteran of the group at the tender age of 23, while Ehlers is 20 and Laine in just 18.
A lot has been said about both Laine, who now leads the NHL in goals with 11, and Scheifele over the last couple weeks, but not much has been said about Ehlers, who is seemingly the forgotten man on the line.
The Dane now has 12 points in 15 games this season, and is set to have a breakout year riding shotgun with the other young two stars. He was hot down the stretch in his rookie season, finishing with 38 points in 72 games, and is now picking up where he left off. The 20-year-old has two goals and six assists in his last four games.
To go along with this dominant trio, the Jets also have their 30-year old captain Blake Wheeler up front (78 points last season) and young sensations such as 21-year old Joshua Morrissey and the recently re-signed 22-year old Jacob Trouba on the back end.
Add it all up and the Jets are poised to become a serious contender for years to come.
