Look, it hasn’t been a great year for Jonas Gustavsson, but this was nice.
The goaltender for Edmonton’s farm team in Bakersfield scored a goal on Friday, after an errant pass from San Diego Gulls forward Corey Tropp went all the way back into an empty net. Gustavsson was the last Condor to touch the puck.
The announcer’s call, via the AHL on Twitter, is terrific:
Gustavsson was credited with the goal in Bakersfield’s 5-1 win, which also saw 2016 fourth-overall pick Jesse Puljujarvi score.
The American Hockey league says that Gustavsson is the 12th goalie in league history to be credited with a goal.
The 32-year-old was brought in by the Oilers this off-season to be the backup to starter Cam Talbot in the NHL.
An .878 save percentage in seven games sent the 32-year-old to the AHL, where he’s been solid; posting a .916 save percentage in 14 appearances heading into Friday’s contest.
And now he has a goal.
