New York Islanders forward Shane Prince will miss four to six months after ankle surgery, the team announced on Monday.
According to the Islanders, Prince returned home following the 2016-17 season to continue rehabbing a high ankle sprain but began to experience increased discomfort. After specialists attempted “more conservative measures” they determined surgery was the best option.
The 24-year-old recorded five goals and 18 points in 50 games for New York this past season, all of which mark career-highs. Selected 61st overall by the Ottawa Senators in the 2011 NHL Draft, Prince was traded to the Islanders in February 2016.
