The Toronto Maple Leafs announced that defenceman Jake Gardiner will not play when the team hosts the Arizona Coyotes Sunday night.

It’s unclear when Gardiner sustained the injury as he finished the Maple Leafs 3-1 loss to the Florida Panthers Friday night registering a hit and one blocked shot in 21 minutes of ice-time.

In 47 games this season, Gardiner has scored two goals and added 22 assists while averaging 21:40 a night on Mike Babcock’s defence.

With the Minnesota native out on on the back end, Martin Marincin is expected to draw into the Maple Leafs lineup on Sunday. In 8 games this season, the 26-year-old has chipped in one assist.
