Jeremy Roenick gives John Scott All-Star incentive

With the news that John Scott will be captaining an NHL all-star team, here’s his top 5 goals… okay actually they're his only 5 goals.

Ray Bourque. Mark Messier. Jeremy Roenick. John Scott.

One of these names is not like the others. But it could be.

With the NHL All-Star weekend fast approaching and Arizona Coyotes‘ John Scott confirmed to be attending as captain of the Pacific Division’s team, many are wondering what, exactly, the tough guy is going to bring to the table.

We may have found our answer in the form of the NHL’s Skills Competition Accuracy Challenge.

The accuracy challenge used to be ranked by the number of shots it took a player to hit four destructible Styrofoam targets. (It switched to a timed event in 2011.) Only three players have gone 4-for-4 in its history: Bourque (1992), Messier (1996) and Roenick (2004).

Thanks to Roenick and a fan on Twitter, Scott now has some incentive to join this elite group.

On Tuesday, a fan tweeted Roenick asking him if he would donate $10,000 to charity if Scott could beat his accuracy record.

Roenick’s response?

“Absolutely.”

Now, this isn’t to say that Roenick approves of Scott’s inclusion in the All-Star Game.

In fact, the retired player joined Sportsnet’s Brady and Walker on Tuesday to talk about how “terrible” it is that John Scott going to the NHL All-Star Game in the first place.

“If it was me and I knew that people were doing it as a joke and making fun of me, and making fun of me as a player, I probably would have said ‘Hey, it was a fun joke. Kudos to you guys for putting on a cool campaign, and you guys won, but I don’t belong there and I’m not going,'” he said.

The All-Star Game Skills Competition takes place Jan. 30, 2016 at 7pm E.T.
