Benning: Canucks likely to trade Lack or Markstrom

Canucks GM Jim Benning would like to move one of his goalies in order to recover some picks in this deep draft.

The Vancouver Canucks are likely to trade either Eddie Lack or Jacob Markstrom in the near future, according to the team’s general manager Jim Benning who spoke with reporters in Florida Thursday.

The Canucks are a team that has been criticized in recent years for trading away goalies – first Cory Schneider then Roberto Luongo – and Benning knows he runs the risk of upsetting the fan base.

Lack went 18-13-4 in 41 regular season games last season and helped get the Canucks into the playoffs.

Markstrom, who was acquired as part of the deal that sent Luongo to the Florida Panthers, spent the majority of the 2014-15 season with the San Antonio Rampage in the American Hockey League..

Ryan Miller, the team’s major off-season acquisition last year, will be staying put.
