The Toronto Maple Leafs’ most candid player may be keeping his thoughts to himself.
Joffrey Lupul tweeted the following message Tuesday, after a trade deadline in which he was rumoured to be on the block:
After Tuesday’s morning skate in Florida, teammate Phil Kessel expressed his frustration with the Toronto media’s treatment of team captain Dion Phaneuf.
“I think the way the media treats Dion Phaneuf in this city is embarrassing,” Kessel said. “A lot of people should be ashamed of themselves.”
The Maple Leafs core players have come under heavy criticism during a disappointing 25-33-5 season that saw the team become deadline sellers. During live TV Monday, a fan’s inappropriate tweet regarding Lupul and Phaneuf was accidentally aired on national television. Lupul fired off a response via Twitter.
Neither Lupul nor Phaneuf met with reporters Tuesday.
The Leafs face-off against the Panthers at 7:30 ET at BB&T Center.
