Joni Pitkanen considering NHL comeback after brutal injury

Damien Cox and Elliotte Friedman discuss all the top stories around the NHL including if the slow starts for the Ducks and Blue Jackets have put their coaches on the hot seat.

Joni Pitkanen hasn’t played in the NHL since April 2, 2013 after brutally breaking his heel during a race for the puck on a delayed icing call.

A full year after the injury Pitkanen was unable to even put on a skate, but he is now contemplating making a comeback, according to Sportsnet’s Damien Cox.

The 32-year-old is playing in a charity game later this month and could attempt a return to the NHL for the 2016-17 season.

The fourth-overall pick from 2002 has played 535 career NHL games split between the Philadelphia Flyers, Edmonton Oilers and Carolina Hurricanes.
