Kasperi Kapanen scored the game-winning goal less than a minute into the third period as the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Buffalo Sabres 3-1 in pre-season action Saturday.
With Buffalo’s Matt Moulson in the penalty box for slashing, Kapanen capitalized for the visitors on the ensuing man advantage.
James van Riemsdyk got the Maple Leafs on the board in the first period and Nikita Soshnikov added an empty-netter. Frederik Andersen drew the start in goal and stopped 17 of the 18 shots he faced.
Hudson Fasching had the lone tally for the Sabres. Robin Lehner made 30 saves in defeat.
