The intrigue involving the Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock continues.
According to Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos, the Leafs called the Detroit Red Wings earlier this year and among the topics was the status of Mike Babcock. The conversation took place prior to the two-year extension the Maple Leafs handed out to Randy Carlyle in May.
Babcock, 51, is in the final year of his contract with Detroit.
“I haven’t spent a whole lot of time worrying about it, just trying to get the team ready,” Babcock told reporters in September. “I don’t think it’s going to be my final year here. If it is, it is.”
