William Nylander‘s much anticipated NHL debut should happen in the near future.
According to Sportsnet’s Damien Cox, the Toronto Maple Leafs are expected to call up the Swedish prospect soon after Monday’s trade deadline.
Once on the big club, Nylander is expected to finish the season with the Leafs before re-joining the AHL Marlies for their Calder Cup run. If he does finish the rest of the regular season with the Maple Leafs, he would burn the first year off his three-year entry-level contract.
Since being drafted eighth overall in the 2014 Draft, Nylander has wowed Leafs fans with his slick hands and playmaking ability.
The 19-year-old has performed very well in the AHL this season, posting 45 points (18 goals and 27 assists) in 37 games, second only to defenceman T.J. Brennan (55 points in 55 games) for the Marlies lead in scoring.
