Leafs’ prospect Dermott ejected for brutal hit

Watch as Travis Dermott crushes Owen Tippett along the boards, getting ejected and allowing the Steelheads to score three goals on the ensuing power play.

Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Travis Dermott was ejected Friday for a dangerous hit along the boards.

The Erie Otters defenceman was tracking Mississauga Steelheads forward Owen Tippett when he blindsided him with a hard hit that resulted in Tippett’s head knocking against the glass.

Dermott was assessed a five minute boarding penalty and a game misconduct. Tippett remained on the ice for several minutes before being helped off. The Steelheads scored three times on the ensuing power play.

Dermott was selected 34th overall by the Leafs in 2015.
