Leafs sign Timothy Liljegren to entry-level deal

Leafs GM Lou Lamoriello discusses what stood out about Timothy Liljegren's first development camp scrimmage, and the future of the blue-liner with the team.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed defenceman Timothy Liljegren to a three-year, entry-level contract, the team announced Wednesday.

The Leafs drafted Liljegren 17th overall at the 2017 NHL Draft.

The Swede had one goal and four assists in 19 games with Rogle BK of the SHL this past season.

He was in Toronto for development camp, where his play impressed general manager Lou Lamoriello.

“We saw exactly what we thought we would – an outstanding skater, great poise out there,” Lamoriello said.

The plan for Liljegren is to spend the 2017-18 season either back in Sweden or with the Toronto Marlies in the AHL.

More to come.
