The Toronto Maple Leafs announced on Tuesday that forward Nikita Soshnikov has been placed on injured reserve with a lower-body injury and forward Kasperi Kapanen has been recalled from the Toronto Marlies.

Soshnikov was recalled by the Maple Leafs on Nov. 14, the same day that a clause in his contract was set to kick in that allowed him to return to Russia if he was not playing in the NHL. Since then he has only appeared in three games, the last coming on Nov. 24 against the Carolina Hurricanes. He failed to register a point and spent the majority of the time watching the team from the press box.

Kapanen, originally acquired in the deal that sent Phil Kessel to the Pittsburgh Penguins, has also appeared in three games for the big club, and, like Soshnikov, has failed to register a point. He has not played for the Leafs since Nov. 4. In 16 games with the Marlies this season, Kapanen has notched eight goals and four assists.

The Maple Leafs next play on Tuesday night when they take on the Philadelphia Flyers.
